Joining the library
Who can join?
Membership is free to everyone. To join, bring an identity card and your address. You will then be given a library card which you can use straight away. Children under 16 will not be asked to show an identity card.
What can you borrow?
You can borrow books, audio books, music CDs, videos, DVD and CD-ROM. . If the book you want is not in the library, it may be obtained within certain limitations from other libraries.

If you have registered for the service "
My account" you may make a reservation in our database. Choose "I want to borrow this title" when you have found the material you want. You can also make a reservation when you visit the library or you can call us on tlf

How many items can you take - and for how long?
Normally you can keep books for 4 weeks. You can check the table underneath for other media. You may renew your loans unless somebody else is waiting for the item. You can renew materials using

Asker library is open to all.

The owner of a library card is responsible for the items registered to the card.

The loan period is usually 4 weeks (loans may be renewed)

Library items that are temporarily out, may be reserved.

A penalty fee will apply if the items are overdue:
Fee 1st notice: kr 50.- for adults, kr 20.- for children (under 16)
Fee 2nd notice: kr 90.- for adults, kr 50.- for children (under 16)
Fee for loss of library card: kr 100.- for adults, kr 30.- for children
Fee for loans without a library card: kr 20.- for adults.

Items not returned, lost or damaged, must be replaced in accordance to the rules of the library. An administration fee of kr 100.- will be charged. The claims will be pursued (legal recovery). Compensation amount will not be refunded even if the replaced material is recovered later.

The library is not responsible for the damage that may occur to playback equipment.

Notify the library immediately upon change of address, phone number, e-mail adress or loss of card.

If you do not abide to the terms of use, you may lose the right to use the library.
Fees are adjusted annually by the local council (Kommunestyret).
Services:
Books for adults
The library has a comprehensive collection of fiction in English. You will find novels, poetry and plays. We also have some non-fiction books in English, especially about Norwegian history, traditions and social conditions.
Books for children and teenagers
The children’s library has illustrated books for small children and other books for older children and teenagers. Some of the titles are also available as audio books. You can find a few "easy readers", too.
Audio Books
The library has audio books for loan, both for children and adults. We have several titles in English on CDs and cassettes.

Both the main library in Asker and Heggedal Library offer free Internet access and at Asker we also offer free wireless internet connection.

You will find a nice selection of compact disc and music videos catering for the full range of musical taste.

The Multilingual library supports Norway's county and public libraries with library services for immigrants and refugees. The library act as a national distance lending centre. If you want to read books in your own language we will try to order them from "The Multi-lingual library" in Oslo.

Bazar offers public information in languages of ethnic minorities. You will find useful information about about the Norwegian society in your language.
